San Diego police received a 911 call of a male in the 3200 block of Hancock Street threatening people with a knife. As officers were driving to the call, they were advised that the suspect entered the Highlight Book Store and threatened the reporting party with a knife.
An officer arrived behind the bookstore and recognized a male matched the suspect description given by the reporting party. The officer gave verbal commands to the suspect, but he continued to advance on the officer resulting in the officer shooting the male.
The male was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. His identity is known, but will not be released pending family notifications.
The officer is a 27-year veteran of the San Diego Police Department.
