On Saturday, the Library’s Out of the Shadows program will host the debut of the documentary “#SexSells” at a free, black-tie optional event featuring a mixer at 6 p.m. and a screening at 7 p.m. in the Neil Morgan Auditorium at the San Diego Central Library. Due to limited seating, registration is required.
“#SexSells” explores the story of Lauren, who is kidnapped into sex-slavery and Jeremy, who becomes a sex-buyer, and how their experiences are linked. Director Peter Wisan and producer David Jensen Scherer will host a question and answer session following the premier of the documentary.
The FBI ranks San Diego among the top 13 highest sex trafficking areas in the country. The Library’s Out of the Shadows program and the documentary “#SexSells” were both created to raise awareness of the often unnoticed crime of sex trafficking.
To date, the library program has trained 95 percent of library staff and nearly 800 patrons on the issues surrounding sex trafficking.
