SAN DIEGO–A northbound Amtrak train struck and seriously injured a pedestrian Friday morning in San Diego.
The fatal collision occurred just before 8:30 a.m. on the railroad tracks near 1396 West Palm Street, according to deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit.
The train was traveling about 47 miles per hour when the engineer observed one pedestrian standing near the railroad tracks. The engineer sounded the train’s horn and activated its lighting system, but the pedestrian did not move away from the tracks. The pedestrian was struck by the train. San Diego Fire department paramedics transported the man to UCSD Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries.
The Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit is investigating the case.
