ESCONDIDO–The Palomar Health Foundation received a $100,000 donation from the physicians’ group CEP America, to expand Palomar Medical Center Escondido’s emergency room.
“CEP America supports Palomar Health’s mission to provide the best patient care,” said Dr. Jaime Rivas, CEP America immediate past Board Chair and Palomar Health Emergency Department Medical Director. “An expanded emergency room will reduce wait times, allow doctors to treat patients sooner, and improve patient experience.”
The emergency room at Palomar Medical Center Escondido treats more than 100,000 patients each year in a facility projected to serve 60,000 when it opened in 2012. The expansion will increase emergency room bed capacity from 52 to 64. The emergency department also operates North County’s only Trauma Center.
The Palomar Health Foundation is in the midst of a capital campaign to raise $5.6 million dollars to build out 4,600 square feet of unfinished shell space that will add eight private rooms, six treatment bays, a nurse’s station, patient beds, monitors, and other life-saving equipment to the emergency department. Completion is slated for late 2017.
CEP America physicians partner with 30 health systems nationwide and serve more than 6.3 million patients to integrate care and improve patient experience.
