Suspect Involved In Solana Beach Stabbing Dies In Officer-Involved Shooting

SOLANA BEACH–A suspect with a knife who stabbed a man at a Solana Beach restaurant Monday afternoon has died from an officer-involved shooting, authorities said.

Just before 4 p.m., deputies from the Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at the Rubio’s Restaurant, located at 437 South Highway 101 in Solana Beach. When deputies arrived they found an injured man who witnesses said had been stabbed in the face at the location. Witnesses also gave deputies a description of the man who had fled the scene.

Shortly after, deputies located a man matching the description about four blocks south of the Rubio’s Restaurant in the 3200 block of Camino Del Mar in Del Mar. When they contacted the man who was still armed with the knife, a confrontation followed which culminated in a deputy involved shooting.

The facts surrounding the confrontation are currently under investigation by the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail. The man was treated at the scene before medics transported him to the hospital. He died from his injuries and was pronounced at the hospital; he has not yet been identified.

Medics transported the victim of the stabbing to the hospital where he is currently being treated. He is expected to survive his injuries.
