LA MESA–A resident was displaced after a Thursday morning fire destroyed a two-story apartment complex in La Mesa.

Heartland Fire and Rescue and San Diego Fire crews were dispatched just after 10:30 a.m. to reports of an apartment fire, in the 7900 block of La Mesa Blvd. Fire crews arrived within two minutes to discover a two story, multi family dwelling with flames coming from a bedroom window. Fire crews were able to control the fire within ten minutes. One cat was rescued from inside the structure.

The fire was confined to a single bedroom of the residence, however there was significant smoke damage throughout the structure.

Red Cross was called in to assist with one adult female who was displaced. There were no occupant or firefighter injuries reported.

Estimated damage for the structure and contents is estimated at $50,000 and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
