FALLBROOK–A fugitive Monday afternoon was arrested after a brief standoff at an apartment complex in Fallbrook.

The suspect, 22-year-old Joshua Villegas, who had a felony warrant for assault with a deadly weapon, exited the apartment and was safely taken into custody, according to Sheriff’s deputies. Villegas was booked into Vista jail for the outstanding arrest warrant with a $200,000 bail.

On Monday, San Diego Fugitive Task Force officers observed Villegas enter an apartment on the 900 block of Alturas Street. Officers obtained a search warrant for the apartment and surrounded it. Villegas was instructed to exit the apartment and surrender. He did not comply with repeated law enforcement requests for him to exit apartment and surrender.

Due to the danger posed by Villegas and his refusal to surrender, the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail was requested to assist. Residents were evacuated from the apartment complex during the standoff.

No other individuals were located in Villegas’ apartment. No civilians or officers were injured during the incident.
