Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Train

OCEANSIDE–A southbound Amtrak train Tuesday evening fatally struck an adult male laying on the railroad tracks, authorities reported.

Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit responded to the 7 p.m. Amtrak train collision near Cassidy Street and Broadway Street. The train was traveling at approximately 55 miles per hour when the engineer observed the male on the tracks. The train went into emergency braking, but the train struck the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
