OCEANSIDE–A vehicle collision Thursday claimed the life of a motorcyclist in Oceanside, according to traffic investigators.

Oceanside police received calls of a collision involving a motorcycle and a Toyota sedan on El Camino Real near Basel Street.

When they arrived on scene, the motorcyclist, a 36-year-old male, was not breathing but had a pulse. Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene and transported the injured motorcyclist to the area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. The collision occurred when the driver of the sedan made a U-turn in front of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist struck the sedan on the passenger door ejecting him from the bike.

The driver of the sedan was interviewed on scene and released. The passenger of the sedan was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries. Authorities say alcohol was not a factor in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.

The Medical Examiner was notified and the name of the victim is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
