OCEANSIDE–A fatal vehicle collision Saturday on State Route 76 claimed the life of a 43-year-old active duty Navy man, traffic authorities report.
Oceanside police dispatchers received a report at 4:30 p.m. of a vehicle collision on SR 76 eastbound at Douglas Drive.
Officers arrived on scene and found an unresponsive male in the roadway. They immediately began CPR on the victim. Oceanside Fire department transported the victim by ambulance to Tri City Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
The man parked and exited his vehicle on the right shoulder, possibly to address a mechanical problem, when he was struck by a box truck traveling in the number two lane. The driver of the box truck was identified as a 53-year-old year old man from Fallbrook.
Neither alcohol nor speed are believed to be a factor in the collision based upon the preliminary investigation.
The investigation is continuing.
