VISTA–Constituents of Congressman Darrell Issa Thursday gathered in front of the congressman’s office in Vista to protest his support to repeal the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).
The group held a news conference to unveil estimates of what Republican proposals to repeal the Affordable Care Act without a replacement would mean in higher costs, health care chaos, and economic impact for the San Diego and Orange County region.
They added that the Affordable Care Act, as President-Elect Trump and Republican congressional leaders have promised, would strip 30 million Americans of health care coverage, leave five million more Californians uninsured, and take a disproportionate impact in the region.
Congressman Issa proposed an alternative health care plan that keeps what works about the current health insurance landscape and improves upon what doesn’t work. He states that the Federal Employee Health Benefit Plan, used by federal civil servants, offers access to high-quality, affordable health care coverage to fit people’s needs, and should be open and available to all Americans.
However, Obamacare proponents say Republicans have no plan to replace the insurance, and 5 million Californians run the risk of losing their health insurance.
Republicans in Congress are preparing to dismantle the Affordable Care Act through the federal budget process, with crucial votes expected as early as next week.
