SAN DIEGO–(PRNewswire)– San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, is marking its 12th year of title sponsorship for the annual San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.

Kickoff for the 2016 game is at 6 p.m., December 21 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.

The game will be broadcasted live before a nationwide audience on ESPN-TV and ESPN-Radio. The bowl game will match the Wyoming Cowboys against the BYU Cougars.

Wyoming finished the regular season 8-5 overall and 6-2 in the Mountain Division of the Mountain West Conference. The Cougars are ranked first among Football Bowl Subdivision Independents, finishing 8-4 on the year.

This will be Wyoming’s 14th bowl appearance and the team’s first appearance in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. It will be BYU’s 12th straight postseason trip and second appearance in the SDCCU Poinsettia Bowl. The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl provides the Cowboys and Cougars – decades’ old rivals – the 78th opportunity to face one another, a rivalry that dates back to 1922.

All ticket holders receive access to the all-new pregame holiday celebration, Dexcom WinterFest. It’s holiday fun for all ages, complete with a snow hill, holiday crafts for kids, a sports lounge airing ESPN, a petting zoo, bounce houses and more. Also, all San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl ticket holders are granted access to exclusive discounts at local restaurants and attractions. An access code will be printed on each ticket to unlock these special offers.

Critically acclaimed Los Angeles-based band Los 5, will sing the national anthem before this year’s game. Los 5 is comprised of five multi-talented musicians – lead singer Juan Pablo Casillas from Mexico, rapper Matt Rey from Argentina, lead guitarist Ismael Cano, Jr. from Mexico, bass guitarist Hector Rodriguez from Mexico, and drummer Tomas Slemenson from Brazil – who, together, aspire to have a positive impact on all who hear their music. Los 5 – a Macy’s iHeartRadio Rising Star competition winner – have been taking the music scene by storm, ever since their breakthrough performance on the TODAY show from March of this year, where they performed “Poquito Mas” from their album “Meet Los Five”.

Los 5 will also be the guest DJ on iHeartMedia radio station Channel 93.3FM December 19 from 6 a.m.10 a.m. “Los 5 are rising stars,” said John Peake, iHeartMedia senior vice president of programming. “San Diego is in for a great performance.”

Biz Kid$ has been named the beneficiary of the 2016 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl, which means $1 from each ticket sold to this year’s game will be donated to help teach kids in San Diego about money and business. Launched in 2008 in partnership with the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF), Biz Kid$ is an award-winning comprehensive financial literacy program focused on teaching kids how to use credit wisely and the importance of saving, budgeting, investing and giving back to their communities.

According to the San Diego Bowl Game Association, the non-profit entity that produces the game, the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl generates millions of dollars into the San Diego economy during a week when the region’s tourism industry is at one of its slowest times of the year. The mission of the Association is to generate tourism, exposure, economic benefit and civic pride for San Diego and its citizens by producing the nation’s most exciting bowl games and festival of activities. Officials report that the previous eleven San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl games have added nearly $100 million in combined revenue into the local economy.

SDCCU has served as title sponsor of the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl since the bowl game’s inception in 2005. The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl is the only college football bowl game among America’s 41 college football bowl games to have a credit union as a title sponsor.
