CARLSBAD–A drunk driver Sunday struck and seriously injured a pedestrian at a crosswalk in downtown Carlsbad, authorities say.

The driver, 41-year-old Chad Gibson of Carlsbad, was booked at the Vista Detention Facility.

The traffic collision occurred just after 8 p.m. at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Jefferson Street, according to Carlsbad police.

Officers arrived and discovered that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle while apparently crossing the street in the crosswalk. Officers conducted an investigation and arrested the driver of the truck for causing injury while driving under the influence of alcohol.

The injured pedestrian was transported to the hospital with a serious head injury.
