Pumpkin is ready for her new home.

SAN DIEGO–An abused 8-month-old kitten has recovered from her injuries, and she is ready for her forever home.

The kitten, named Pumpkin, had abdominal injuries that were so severe she required extensive surgery, according to Tracy DeFore, County of San Diego Communications Officer.

A staff member from the County Animal Services fostered Pumpkin during her recovery.

The animal agency said a good Samaritan thought the kitten had been hit by a car when he found her on Mission Gorge Road in the San Carlos area on Oct. 10. A county Animal Services veterinarian determined that her injuries were caused by abuse from an individual.

“We don’t know who struck and injured this cat as there were no witnesses,” said County Animal Services Director Dawn Danielson. “If anyone sees or hears about any animal abuse, we beg you: don’t turn a blind eye or deaf ear. Report your concerns to our department.”

The agency says Pumpkin has a slight limp from nerve damage, but there’s no sign it’s painful, and it doesn’t stop her from being a typical kitten.
