SAN DIEGO–A San Diego man was arrested in Las Vegas in connection with the May 27 murder another man in Valencia Park, San Diego police said Wednesday.

On Wednesday afternoon, 28-year-old Aaron Griffin was taken into custody in the 3000 block of South Maryland Parkway in Las Vegas by members of the U.S. Marshals’ Nevada Fugitive Investigative Strike Team and the San Diego Fugitive Task Force.

Griffin had a warrant issued for him on June 10 for the alleged murder of  23-year-old Jamar Johnson. Homicide detectives said Griffin fled San Diego to avoid being arrested.

Griffin was booked in a Las Vegas jail for the murder warrant and awaits extradition to San Diego to face his murder charge.

Johnson was shot and killed in his vehicle at a stoplight on Euclid Avenue at Market Street. The suspect vehicle stopped and the suspect leaned toward Johnson’s vehicle and opened fire. Johnson was struck several times and died a short time later at a local hospital. His six-month-old infant was with him in a rear car seat at the time of the shooting. The car seat was struck by gunfire but the child was unharmed.
