OCEANSIDE–A 37-year-old motorist Sunday evening was fatally injured after he collided with another vehicle on State Route 76, Oceanside police said Monday.
Traffic investigators say the driver of a 2015 Volkswagen Passat was traveling westbound SR-76 and approaching Old Grove Road at a high rate of speed. The driver changed lanes prior to the intersection colliding with the driver of a 2000 Ford Explorer, also traveling westbound the highway. The collision caused the Ford Explorer to overturn in the intersection coming to a rest on its roof. The Volkswagen Passat continued out of control across the intersection colliding with a signal light pole on the driver side.
The 37-year-old male driver of the Volkswagen Passat was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other driver, a 28-year-old female, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The investigation is ongoing, and it is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the collision. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
