BORREGO SPRINGS–A Borrego Springs man was arrested and charged with the murder of a man who lived in his home, Sheriff’s homicide detectives said Sunday.

Detectives arrested 53-year-old Mark Peter Waugh, and booked him into the Vista Detention Facility on a single count of murder.

The victim, 52-year-old Brett Leslie Boynton, of Borrego Springs, and the suspect, Waugh, were both residents in the 400 block of Verbena Drive.

According to Strangulation SANE, the cause of death was blunt force trauma with possible strangulation. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office

Deputies Saturday morning responded to a report of a possibly deceased male inside the residence. When deputies entered the home, they found a male years lying on the floor. There were signs of trauma to the male’s upper body.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives are continuing their investigation on the case.
