SAN DIEGO—Caltrans will switch traffic from the existing State Route 76 alignment to the southern two lanes of the highway’s new alignment between Flowerwood Lane and Old Highway 395 overnight on Wednesday.
Starting with the Thursday morning commute, one eastbound and one westbound lane will be maintained between Flowerwood Lane and Old Highway 395 on the new SR-76.
This traffic switch will allow crews to complete work on the northern two lanes of the new SR-76 alignment. The traffic switch schedule is subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances. Motorists are urged to slow down, use caution in the construction area, and budget extra time for their commutes as they become accustomed to the roadway.
The traffic switch is part of the SR-76 East Segment Project to widen and realign the highway to meet present and future traveling needs in the growing North County inland region. The project is funded in part, by the TransNet regional half-cent sales tax. The East Segment is the final segment in a series of three improvement projects to the SR-76 corridor located between I-15 and I-5. The East Segment stretches 5.2 miles from South Mission Road to I-15 and serves local, intraregional and interregional traffic.
