IMPERIAL BEACH–Sheriff’s deputies Friday arrested an alleged drunk driver who drove onto a sidewalk and hit two pedestrians standing outside a bar in Imperial Beach.
Traffic investigators say just after 9 p.m. a 2007 Ford Sport Trac Explorer XLT, driven by a 36-year-old male resident of Imperial Beach, was travelling westbound in the 1000 block of Palm Avenue approaching 10th Street. The vehicle continued westbound, drove onto the sidewalk and collided with two patrons that were standing outside of the Salty Frog Bar, located at 992 Palm Avenue. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and continued westbound on the sidewalk.
The vehicle came to rest along the north curb of Palm Avenue and Emory Street due to severe damage to the front end suspension of the vehicle. There were several witnesses at the scene who were able to identify the driver of the vehicle.
The two pedestrians were transported to the hospital for injuries which did not appear to be life-threatening. The driver of the vehicle was later detained and arrested for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.
