SAN DIEGO–AIDS Walk San Diego is seeking volunteers to assist with organizing the 27th annual 5K walk and a 5K run slated September 24.

“Simply put, volunteers make AIDS Walk and Run possible — and they make it fun,” said Sarah Merk-Benitez, volunteer coordinator for The San Diego LGBT Community Center, which produces AIDS Walk San Diego. “AIDS Walk raises funds for our local HIV/AIDS service organizations and raises awareness about HIV/AIDS in our community. Our volunteers help with both of those efforts in a hands-on way, and we could not put on this event without their dedicated service and tireless energy.”

Volunteers are needed for a variety of duties, including pre-Walk office assistance and phone banking, which will take place every Wednesday evening at The Center beginning August 10.

The week before AIDS Walk San DIego, volunteers are needed to assist with the Yellow Shoe Assembly (for our special teams who have raised $1,000 or more), loading supplies and assisting with pre-registration. The day before the event volunteers are needed to assist with pre-registration, route set-up, site set-up, team area set-up and more.

On Saturday, Sept. 24 – the day of AIDS Walk San Diego – there are volunteer opportunities to assist with the festival site, the start/finish line, Run registration, Walk registration, route set-up and breakdown, safety and route monitors, site breakdown, volunteer check-in, water stations and more.

Individual and group volunteer opportunities are available. Registration and detailed volunteer job descriptions are available at www.aidswalksd.org. For more information, contact Sarah Merk-Benitez at volunteer@thecentersd.org or (619) 692-2077, ext. 202.
