VALLEY CENTER–A 24-year Fontana man Monday evening was fatally injured in a vehicle collision in Vally Center, Sheriff’s department said Tuesday.
The man was driving his Honda Accord east on Lilac Road, near Candle Way, when for unknown reasons he allowed his vehicle to drift off the right side of the road, according to traffic investigators.
He overcorrected and slid into the westbound lane, where he was struck broadside by a Toyota 4-Runner, driven by a 38 year-old Valley Center resident.
The driver of the Honda sustained fatal injury and was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the Toyota sustained minor injuries and was transported to Palomar Hospital.
Lilac Road remained closed for several hours to facilitate recovery of the vehicles and necessary investigation, but has since been reopened.
Driving under the influence is not suspected in the collision, the cause of which remains under investigation.
