SAN DIEGO–A rabid bat found alive at San Diego Zoo Safari Park has tested positive for rabies, County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency reported.
The park’s staff found the bat near the Oasis Deli in Nairobi Village and delivered it to the County Health and Human Services Agency on Sunday. On June 11, park officials found a rabid bat at the same location.
According to the County, a total of three rabid bats were found in San Diego county this year.
County health officials are warning residents not to touch or pick up any bat, dead or alive. Rabies can transmit to humans through a bat’s bite, saliva that comes in contact with cuts on a hands, or with mucous membranes such as eyes, nose or mouth.
Guests at the park who had direct contact with the bat July 10 are urged to contact the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency as soon as possible at (619) 692-8499.
