SAN DIEGO–The San Diego LGBT Community Center’s largest fundraiser, the 27th annual AIDS Walk/Run San Diego, will take place Sept. 24 in San Diego.
The 5K Walk and 5K Run route will start and end at Normal and Harvey Milk streets, in the heart of Hillcrest.
Each year, AIDS Walk/Run raises funds for local HIV/AIDS service organizations, honors those lost to the disease and helps raise awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS in our community.
“We welcome all San Diegans to participate in this incredible community experience” said Ian Johnson, director of events for The Center. “AIDS Walk/Run is a wonderful way to truly make a difference in the fight against HIV, and help us as we strive to #BeTheGeneration to end this epidemic.”
“Thanks to the efforts of many, we currently have some of the best weapons ever available to fight HIV,” said Dr. Delores A. Jacobs, chief executive officer of The Center. “Now, we have to make sure that all San Diegans have access to the education, prevention tools, medical care and the new medications needed to stop this disease. Events like AIDS Walk/Run support those life-saving programs and services that make that possible. We can and must end HIV – together.”
Funding from AIDS Walk/Run also supports The Center’s #BeTheGeneration campaign, an effort designed to end new HIV infections through encouraging more frequent HIV testing and the use of prevention tools, including condoms, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). The effort will focus on keeping HIV-positive individuals connected to medical care and helping them achieve undetectable viral loads.
