OCEANSIDE–A pedestrian was struck and killed Sunday night on State Route 76 at the Interstate 5 bridge, Oceanside police said Monday.

According to traffic investigators, a witness stated that an unknown white female, about 30 to 40 years-old, darted from the south side of SR-76, running north across lanes of traffic. A 2013 Ford SUV being driven by 46 year-old Michael Foxworthy was eastbound from the signal light for the southbound I-5 on-ramp. A witness stated that the female failed to look for on-coming vehicle traffic and was struck by Foxworthy. He pulled over and waited for police to arrive. Witnesses rendered aid until the Oceanside fire department arrived. The female was flown to Scripps La Jolla Hospital for treatment. She later died as the result of the injuries sustained in the traffic collision.

The identity of the female has not yet been determined and notification to the next of kin has not been made.

Foxworthy was taken into custody for driving while under the influence and later booked into the Vista Detention Facility.

Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to call Accident Investigator Hendrix at (760) 435-4882.
