DEL MAR–Butterfly Farms, a Vista-based nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation and research of Southern California’s native butterflies, made its debut at the San Diego County Fair this year.

For a one dollar donation, individuals, young and old, can personally experience the beauty of the monarch butterfly in a vivarium. Representatives of Butterfly Farms will be onsite to answers questions from the public.

Butterfly Farms was established in 2013 to address the concerns of the decline of native butterflies and other native pollinators, according to the organization’s website.

“We are a California nonprofit 501(c)(3) dedicated to education, conservation and research of our important pollinators. We study the host and nectar plant relationships of pollinators using the Monarch Butterfly as our model,” the website states.

Butterfly Farms hosts one-hour guided tours at their Vista location to schools and organizations.
