Harris And Sanchez To Face Off In General Election

SAN DIEGO–California Attorney General Kamala Harris and Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-46) will vie for the U.S. Senate seat in the general election November 8.

Harris won in a landslide Tuesday in the California primary with Sanchez, who came in second place.

The heated race is a historic one for the state. Sanchez would be the first Latina senator, and Harris would be the second black woman to be elected to the U.S. Senate seat. Both Democratic candidates are expected to draw a large number of minority voters in the state.

Harris and Sanchez will spend the next five months competing for Sen. Barbara Boxer’s seat. The senator will retire in early January after serving in the Senate since 1992.
