SAN DIEGO–A Lake Murray man defending his home was fatally shot by group of possible home invasion robbers, San Diego police said Wednesday.

The victim is identified as 33-year-old Brent Adam Adler of San Diego.

On Wednesday, May 11, at approximately 2:50 p.m., San Diego Police and Medic Units responded to the 8500 block of Tommy Drive on a call of a shooting at that location.  When emergency personnel arrived, they discovered a male in his early thirties with at least one gunshot wound to his upper body in front of a residence on that street. Despite lifesaving efforts, the male died at the scene.

Police learned the victim lived at the location where he died and that two other companions were with him at the time of the attack. Witnesses described up to five males who approached the victim’s residence with at least one of them being armed with a handgun. The males forced their way into the residence and began giving orders to the occupants of the home. Believing they were going to be robbed or possibly killed, the victim resisted in an effort to deter the attackers.  The victim was ultimately shot and went down in his driveway. One of his companions yelled out for someone to call 9-1-1.

The surviving victims were not injured and stated they did not know the suspects.  There is a report of a green Ford Expedition leaving the area immediately after the shooting, but it is unknown if the vehicle was involved.

The victim is identified as 33-year-old Brent Adam Adler of San Diego.
