ESCONDIDO–An adult male who shot at a woman’s house and damaged a window was taken into custody by Escondido police.
Police officers identified Robert Beltran, a 50-year-old Escondido resident, as the suspect in the shooting incident. The rifle he used was identified as a CO2-powered pellet rifle.
Escondido police Tuesday morning was contacted by a City of Escondido Parks employee stating he saw a lone male subject seated in a black BMW parked at Kit Carson Park. The male in the car had been pointing what appeared to be a rifle at LR Green School. The employee was able to get a license plate before the vehicle fled the scene. No shots were fired. Police officers responded to the area but were unable to locate the vehicle or the male driver.
At about 1p.m. Escondido Police Dispatch received a call from a female in the 2200 block of Conway Drive indicating a male subject in a black BMW had just shot at her house with a long rifle that had a scope. The damage from the shooting was a cracked window. The reporting party confronted the male and took photos of him, the rifle and the car before he fled the scene.
During the investigation several schools were placed on temporary lock-down. Officers determined that the photos taken of the male driver was the same suspect vehicle seen earlier at Kit Carson Park.
Officers made contact with Beltran by cell phone and he agreed to come to the police department where he was taken into custody without incident. Beltran was charged with unlawful negligent discharge of a firearm and booked into the Vista Jail.
