SAN DIEGO–Crime Stoppers and investigators from the Metro Arson Strike Team (MAST) are asking assistance from the public to help identify and locate the suspect who is responsible for a series of fires which have taken place in the Hillcrest area of San Diego.

On March 21, an unidentified suspect lit fires in numerous locations within the Hillcrest area. The fires took place in the early morning hours between approximately 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and were set in trash cans and dumpsters in alleys. The fires occurred between 1010 Essex Street and 1727 University Avenue.

A surveillance video showed a person walk up to a dumpster in the south alley of 1400 University Avenue, light a fire in the dumpster, then walk away.  That person is described as a white male with eyeglasses wearing dark clothing with a gray hood and hiking style shoes.

Anyone with information on the identity or location of the suspect is asked to call the Metro Arson Strike Team at (619) 236-6815 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477. Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to an arrest in this case. Anonymous email and text messages can be sent via www.sdcrimestoppers.org.
