CARLSBAD–A 7 year-old boy was struck by a vehicle while he darted out into the street, Carlsbad police said Sunday.

Police officers found the child conscious and in the street suffering from a chest would described as an avulsion type / bruising injury.

Preliminary investigation reveals the child was at a parked ice cream truck that was facing northbound on the 200 block of Holiday Way.

The child darted out into the street from behind the truck and collided with the side of a vehicle traveling southbound at about 30 miles per hour. The force of the collision caused a dent to the front fender of the vehicle.
