Aspen Santa Fe Ballet

ESCONDIDO–The California Center for the Arts, Escondido will present the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet April 14 in the Concert Hall.

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet combines rugged athleticism with liquid grace in a lively performance that leaves audiences breathless. The ensemble’s bold vision coupled with top global choreographers, a groundbreaking repertoire and virtuoso dances has fostered itself as a jewel of a dance company in the American West. Interviews and hi-res images are available upon request.

Founded by Bebe Schweppe in 1996, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet has managed to influence the dance field at large and has helped shape the cultural landscapes in both of its home cities, Aspen and Santa Fe. Executive Director, Jean-Philippe Malaty has danced with the Los Angeles Classical Ballet, Ballet Hispanico and Lyric Opera of Chicago. He has also been heavily involved in developing the company’s unique dual-city business model. He shared an honor with Artistic Director, Tom Mossbrucker when the Santa Fe Community Foundation bestowed its Piñon Award to the company.

“Bebe’s vision for Aspen to have its own ballet company was the project of a lifetime. We embarked together on a serendipitous adventure. Twenty years later, the connection between the dancers and our two communities is deep and inextricable,” says Malaty.

Characterized by their European sensibility glossed with American ebullience, the company of eleven epitomizes the contemporary-classical genre. Aspen Santa Fe Ballet features Craig Black (sponsored by Judith Zee Steinberg and Paul Hoenmans), Katherine Bolaños (sponsored by Barbara Gold), Sadie Brown (sponsored by Jessica and John Fullerton), Samantha Klanac Campanile (sponsored by Mary and Patrick Scanlan), Jenelle Figgins (sponsored by Catherine Maas), Emily Proctor (sponsored by Bebe and David Schweppe), Seia Rassenti (sponsored by Kelli and Allen Questrom), Anthony Tiedeman (sponsored by Maja and Nic DuBrul), Pete Leo Walker (sponsored by Soledad and Bob Hurst), Joseph Watson (sponsored by Jessica and John Fullerton) and Lukasz Zieba (sponsored by Sherry and Eddie Wachs).

Their high-octane style and deep commitment to curating new ballets and cultivating choreographic talent has contributed to their critical success. Aspen Santa Fe Ballet has repeat engagements at the American Dance Festival, The Kennedy Center, Harris Theater for Music and Dance, and Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The company has also performed internationally in Brazil, France, Greece, Guatemala, Israel, Italy, Russia and many other countries. Premier funders supporting Aspen Santa Fe Ballet’s growth have included National Endowment for the Arts, New England Foundation for the Arts / National Dance Project, Joyce Foundation, Shubert Foundation, Wolf Trap Foundation, Jerome Robbins Foundation, and Princess Grace Foundation.
