SAN DIEGO–Ocean Beach will honor student artists at the annual Young at Art Children’s Creative Center next month.

The Young at Art Children’s Creative Center features student artist masterpieces, some of which will be up for auction at the year-round art program’s annual fundraiser on April 30.

Young At Art provides after school art classes, summer camps, community events and creative art parties.

“Our Children’s Creative Center allows students to experience the joy of creativity and increased self esteem by transforming day-to-day challenges with paints, brushes and clay,” said Young at Art Director Kim Howell. “Our goal is to inspire the life of a child by providing the opportunity to express, nurture and trust their own creativity.”

Held at the Point Loma Masonic Lodge, the fundraiser celebrates the individual and collective talent, creativity and growth of the students, displaying many art mediums with a special project focusing on a clay succulent garden expressed through individual pieces. This environmental theme inspires concepts of conservation, individual responsibility and the healing powers of nature.

The Young at Art fundraiser will feature raffle prizes and auction items including children’s collaborative art pieces and gifts donated by community businesses and residents, and some favorite theme parks including Disneyland passes. Guests will enjoy a buffet dinner and desserts provided by local establishments. A short inspirational video will highlight the power of art that has transformed the lives of the students over the years.

Funds raised at the event help Young at Art offer daily afterschool and summer art camp classes for students ages 4 to 17 to benefit from an exceptionally high teacher to student ratio, providing a well-rounded curriculum to complete projects in drawing, painting, pottery, photography, pastels, mixed-media, sculpture and crafts. The studio offers a unique, comfortable home environment complete with a backyard garden for inspiration; a patio for pottery wheel, glazing and sculpting; and, an ever-changing Fantasy Mural Wall.

At the core of Young at Art is its commitment to inspire, encourage and provide opportunities to benefit from freedom of expression in the arts, while the scholarship program is the heart and soul, providing underprivileged children the same opportunities by using the arts to establish common values of self-worth, confidence, dignity and respect for themselves and each other. The studio strives to involve students of all ethnicities and backgrounds with professional artists and teachers who will foster creative expression, artistic training and personal achievement. Since opening in June of 2009, the program has awarded more than $40,000 in scholarships and free community events.

The Young at Art Children’s Creative Center Art Show and Fundraiser runs from 6 to 8 p.m. April 30.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for participating artists and children. Tickets can be purchased at the Young At Art Center, or at the door at the event.
