SAN DIEGO–In the past month, at least five endangered parrots in Ocean Beach and Point Loma have reportedly been shot and killed with pellet guns—four of whom were killed within the span of just one week.

San Diego police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the animals’ deaths, so PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for these crimes.

“At least five beautiful birds have been shot and left to die from grievously painful injuries,” says PETA Senior Director Colleen O’Brien. “PETA is urging anyone with information about their deaths to come forward immediately, before anyone else gets hurt.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—offers tips for helping wildlife and reporting cruelty to animals on its website.

Anyone with information about this case should contact the Western Division of the San Diego Police Department at (619) 692-4800.
