SAN DIEGO–San Diego’s experience with the Civil Rights Movement is being highlighted this month by an exhibit at the County Administration Center.
“The San Diego Experience of the Civil Rights Movement” is featured through February 29 on the first floor of the County Center at 1600 Pacific Highway. It is free and open to the public during the County Center’s business hours.
“This is a great opportunity for San Diegans, especially students, to learn about San Diego’s rich Civil Rights history, including the courageous men and women who moved this nation forward,” said County Supervisor Greg Cox, who helped arrange for the County to host the exhibit.
The exhibit consists of 13 panels that showcase some of the leaders who shaped the civil rights era. It was created by Leah Goodwin and dedicated to her father, James C. Goodwin, who flew with the Tuskegee Airmen and fought for civil rights.
A reception to celebrate the exhibit will be held Tuesday, February 16 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the County Administration Center.
In addition to Supervisor Cox, the exhibit is sponsored by the African American Association of County Employees.
