VISTA–A 69 year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing a road in Vista, Sheriff’s deputies said Monday.

Deputies and Oceanside police officers found the male pedestrian lying in the roadway on North Emerald Drive at Jonathan Place. Oceanside Fire Department paramedics transported the man to Tri-City Hospital where he was flown by helicopter to Scripps La Jolla.

An investigation revealed the pedestrian had been crossing westbound on North Emerald Drive outside a crosswalk. Several northbound vehicles swerved to avoid hitting the pedestrian. A southbound vehicle also swerved to avoid a collision and a second southbound vehicle struck the pedestrian in the southbound traffic lane. He collided with the front driver’s side of the vehicle and windshield, which caused a non-survivable head injury.

The victim’s name is being withheld, pending family notification. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. Alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
