SAN DIEGO–Two males, suspected of vehicle burglaries in the San Diego area, were arrested Thursday near San Diego State University.
The suspects, identified as William Gaukel, 26, and Christain Marquez, 25, were taken into custody by San Diego police department’s Central Division Night Investigative Team.
On January 5, investigators conducted surveillance on one of the suspects in the San Diego State area. During that surveillance, it was discovered that two additional car prowls had been committed prior to his apprehension. Stolen property was located and recovered in his white Ford Ranger. As the investigation progressed, a second suspect was identified as an accomplice.
Various neighborhoods in the area recently experienced car prowls and burglaries. The crimes have occurred in gated parking structures and vehicles parked on the street. Most of these crimes were occurring in the late night and early morning hours.
The property loss ranged from computer equipment, cell phones, jewelry, power tools, backpacks and purses and other property. The suspects gained entry into the vehicles by smashing the side windows.
Both men currently face 31 charges of burglary.
