OCEANSIDE–Tri-City Inline Hockey League opens its spring season for players between the ages of 5 to 17.

The league is a non-profit organization established over 20 years ago for the development of youth inline roller hockey in North County, organizers say.

“This year, we are celebrating the 24th year of Tri-City Inline Hockey League, the oldest sanctioned inline hockey league by USA Hockey in California,” said Tri-City Inline Hockey League’s President, Shane Nakamura.

All games and practices will be held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Park’s roller hockey rink located at 4300 Mesa Drive in Oceanside.

In-line hockey, commonly referred to as roller hockey, is a team sport normally played on asphalt, cement or sport tile surface, in which players use a hockey stick to shoot a hard plastic hockey puck into their opponent’s goal to score points. Although it is usually considered a contact sport, body-checking is not practiced at the league.

With registration now open, families can sign up their child for a division of Mites (8 and under), Squirts (10 and under), Peewees (12 and under), or Bantams (17 and under).

Registration fee for new players is $60 and free for goalies ($25 jersey fee applies, and $14 additional AAU insurance fee if the player does not have it already).
