SAN DIEGO–Palomar Health, the largest public healthcare district in California, received the Distinguished Practice Award from CEP America, a leading provider of acute care management solutions.

The award recognized Palomar Health for its achievements in providing faster emergency care, reducing re-admissions and increasing patient satisfaction.

As hospitals and emergency rooms (ERs) across the state grow increasingly busy with staggering wait times, Palomar Health has created ways to mitigate these issues while increasing patient satisfaction. The creation of a Patient Flow Initiative with a Centralized Patient Placement Center and Dashboard allows Palomar Health to manage the flow of patients across multiple sites and practice lines while reducing turnaround time to discharge by 50 percent.

“We are proud of our efforts and success at improving the efficiency at Palomar Medical Center, Pomerado Hospital and Villa Pomerado,” says Jaime Rivas, M.D., Medical Director of the Emergency Departments at Palomar Health. “The changes we made have had an enormous impact on the overall experience and quality of care our patients receive while they are at our hospitals.”

Additionally, Palomar Medical Center, one of the busiest emergency rooms in the county, has some of the shortest wait times to be seen by a health professional. With an average of 33 minutes, this falls below the national average. Pomerado Hospital’s emergency room, a medium volume ER, has an average wait time of 27 minutes which falls below the state average.
