BONITA–One person is dead and four others were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation following a house fire in Bonita.

The fire broke out just before 5 a.m. in the 3800 block of Alameda Way. Deputies from the Imperial Beach Sheriff’s Substation, as well as firefighters from the Chula Vista Fire Department, National City Fire Department and Bonita-Sunnyside Fire Protection District responded to the home.

There were five people inside the two-bedroom home when the fire started. One person was found dead in the back bedroom. Four people who suffered smoke inhalation were taken to UCSD Medical Center.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, as well as positive identification of the body.

Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson Investigators and fire crews are continuing their investigation to determine what may have started the fire.
