CARLSBAD–McClellan-Palomar Airport runway reopened to all air traffic Thursday at 3:05 p.m., airport officials said today.

The runway was closed following a helicopter crash at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday that took the lives of the two individuals on board.

Earlier this morning the airport opened for helicopter activity at the far east end of the airfield. Following the completion of the accident site inspection by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), airport staff and HAZMAT crews worked to clear the scene and remove debris from the runway. There was no damage to public or private structures or equipment as a result of the accident.
