SAN DIEGO–A male driver died in a fiery vehicle collision on Interstate 805, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said Wednesday.

On Tuesday evening, CHP dispatch received reports from passing motorists of a gray Nissan Altima stalled in the southbound lanes of I-805, just north of Carroll Canyon Road. A white Lexus IS350 going southbound collided into the rear of the stalled Nissan causing the Nissan to catch on fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene and extinguished the burning vehicle. After the vehicle was extinguished the body of an unidentified male was found inside. The driver of the Lexus did not sustain any injuries. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Traffic lanes were temporarily closed during the investigation as well as cleanup.
