ESCONDIDO–Legendary humorist and author Garrison Keillor brings his heartwarming storytelling to The California Center for the Arts, Escondido with a special presentation of “An Evening With Garrison Keillor” on February 5, 2015.

True to his award-winning radio form, the host of American Public Media’s A Prairie Home Companion will deliver hilarious anecdotes with his signature “down comforter” voice, dry sense of humor, massive charisma, and Midwest wisdom.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see America’s favorite storyteller as he brings his singular comic monologues and thought-provoking observations to the San Diego market. Ticket holders to the performance will also receive a complimentary ticket to the Center’s museum exhibition, Contemporary Constructions: Matthew and Iris Strauss Family Foundation and In The Studio: Artist Dialogs. A master storyteller, Garrison Keillor began his radio career as a freshman at the University of Minnesota. He went on to work for Minnesota Public Radio in 1969, later hosting the first broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion in St. Paul, Minnesota on July 6, 1974. The show ended in 1987, resuming in 1989 in New York as The American Radio Company, but eventually returned to Minnesota and resumed under its original name in 1993. Today, A Prairie Home Companion is heard by 4 million listeners each week on more than 600 public radio stations, and abroad on America One and the Armed Forces Networksin Europe and the Far East. A film adaptation of the show, titled A Prairie Home Companion, released in 2006 starring Keillor as himself alongside several acclaimed actors including Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, Lindsay Lohan, Woody Harrelson, John C. Reilly, and Tommy Lee Jones.

Keillor is the recipient of numerous awards, including a GRAMMY Award for “Best Spoken Word or Non-Musical Album” for his recording of Lake Wobegon Days. He’s also received two Cable ACE Awards and a George Foster Peabody Award. Keillor’s a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and was recently presented with a National Humanities Medal by the National Endowment for the Humanities. The radio icon was also inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame at Chicago’s Museum of Broadcast Communication in 1994.

With Philip Brunelle, Garrison Keillor has performed with many orchestras, including the Chicago, Milwaukee, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Dallas, and National Symphonies. He’s appeared at Wolf Trap, Carnegie Hall, and other major concert halls as a member of The Hopeful Gospel Quartet, and has performed on his own in one-man shows across the country and on tour broadcasts of A Prairie Home Companion.
