SAN DIEGO–San Diego Surf Cup, a not-for-profit organization connecting student-athletes with colleges and universities through highly visible tournaments, will expand its soccerloco Surf Cup and soccerloco Surf College Cup events to the new SoCal Sports Complex in 2015.

Surf Cup recently signed an agreement with the Oceanside facility that will allow them to accept more teams into its events moving forward and provide college exposure to a larger group of athletes.

“While the San Diego Polo Club will always remain our home field and headquarters, more players and teams will have access to our competitive events with the expansion to the new north County coastal facility,” said Mike Connerley, president of San Diego Surf Cup. “Every year we’re forced to turn away hundreds of teams as a result of not being able to accommodate everyone at the polo grounds. Our agreement with the facility will allow us to bring in more teams, thus giving those players the college exposure they’re looking for.”

More than 97 acres, the SoCal Sports Complex is an outdoor recreational facility that will include 22 multi-use athletic fields. The soccerloco Surf Cup takes place during the last weekend of July and first weekend of August.  This event is made up of boys and girls ages 9-18. The soccerloco Surf College Cup is held during Thanksgiving weekend and caters to 16-18 year girl/boys teams. The organization has a 22-year history of receiving overwhelming interest due to its reputation for attracting hundreds of collegiate coaches from across the U.S. In 2014, San Diego Surf Cup received more than 850 team applications for its summer event and only accepted 376. Surf College Cup received more than 350 applications for its fall tournament and could only accommodate 144 teams.

“Our goal is to bring a wide range of sporting events to the complex and we’re happy to have Surf Cup as a tenant contributing to that mission,” said Pat Collins  at SoCal Sports Complex.  “They’re known for organizing high caliber, nationally recognized events and we’re excited that they’ll be bringing that level of play to our facilities.”

The new SoCal Sports Complex is located at 3302 Senior Center Drive in downtown Oceanside.
