CARLSBAD—A suspicious backpack left outside a main terminal prompt an evacuation of the McClellan Palomar Airport and The Landings restaurant, Carlsbad police said on Monday.

Carlsbad police, San Diego Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson Unit and firefighters responded to the scene Monday evening where they were alerted to a green backpack that was sitting just outside the main terminal doors. Authorities were unable to determine who the owner of the bag was, or what the contents of the bag were. Officials evacuated the airport while the bomb squad conducted their investigation.

The owner of the backpack returned to the scene and stated that she had landed at the airport earlier in the day and while loading her baggage in a vehicle she inadvertently left the backpack behind. Authorities were able to determine that the contents of the backpack were personal items. The airport was restored to normal operating conditions at approximately 8:04 p.m. No flights were cancelled as a result of this incident.  No further investigation is being conducted at this time.
