OCEANSIDE–Oceanside Theatre Company will present a stage production of Neil Simon’s Lost in Yonkers this weekend at the Brooks Theatre.

Lost in Yonkers, written Simon, is the winner of 1991 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and 1991 Tony Award for Best Play. The play is set in a Yonkers in 1942. Bella is a 35-years-old, mentally challenged and living at home with her mother, stern Grandma Kurnitz. The story unfolds as the ne’r do-well son Eddie deposits his two young sons on the old lady’s doorstep. He is financially strapped and taking to the road as a salesman. The boys are left to contend with Grandma, with Bella and her secret romance, and with Louie, her brother, a small-time hoodlum in a strange new world called Yonkers.

The theatre’s lobby will be hosting an interpretational fine art exhibit in conjunction with Lost in Yonkers. The artists will be interpreting and rendering their version of the play’s theme; a chaotic, disrupted and unconventional family viewed through the eyes of the young protagonist and his brother, when displaced with an assortment of odd family members in Yonkers during WWII. The artists were hand selected and hail from Southern California and Oregon. The fine art exhibit will run concurrently with the play from May 16 through June 1. The lobby will be open for viewing the paintings during posted hours, on Thursdays and weekends throughout the run of the play and by appointment. A closing reception is scheduled for June 1.

Lost in Yonkers is being directed by Kathy Brombacher, who used to live in Oceanside. Brombacher recently retired from being the Producing Artistic Director for Moonlight Stage Productions. She is known as a prominent figure in the community and as a founding member and driving force behind Moonlight for a very long time.
