SAN DIEGO–Caltrans in San Diego and Imperial counties is preparing for its annual Don’t Trash California Day on Thursday, April 24 and is urging its followers on social media to participate.

“This is the time of year when we focus on making motorists aware of the amounts, costs and dangers associated with highway litter, and we’re asking our followers on our web page and Twitter to join us in putting litter in its place,” said Caltrans spokesman Edward Cartagena.

Caltrans and its partners for the event, the California Highway Patrol, the San Diego Association of Governments and I Love A Clean San Diego, say people can participate in a couple of ways.

Caltrans recognizes the 320 businesses, organizations and individuals that have volunteered to participate in the Caltrans Adopt-A-Highway program to keep local highways clean.

Southwest Search Dogs and the Poseidon Restaurant on the Beach have committed to collect trash on the special day. The Future Leaders Club from San Diego City College received a one-day permit to clean up along Interstate 5 in Logan Heights.

Diamond Resorts International at Rivera Oaks and PHC Sports Bar and Grill are newcomers to the program.
