Lakeside SWAT Standoff Ends, Man in Custody

LAKESIDE–A man who engaged Sheriff’s Deputies in a seven-hour standoff is now in custody.

Kenny Lee Walker, 45, has been taken by ambulance to Sharp Memorial Hospital for a self-inflicted stab wounds to the chest.

Deputies from the Santee Sheriff’s Station received a 911 domestic violence call from a house in the 12000 block of Lakeshore Drive at around 9:30 a.m. When deputies arrived, the man ran inside the house and refused to surrender. He claimed he has a gun and was threatening to hurt himself and Sheriff’s Deputies. SWAT Team was deployed and set up a perimeter around the house.

Walker’s wife was able to leave the house safely.

Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson Unit deployed a robot to check on Walker and found him lying in a sofa. He had earlier indicated to crisis negotiators that he was injured.

Nearby homes in the area were evacuated. Lindo Park Elementary School in the 12000 block of Lakeshore Drive was placed on lockdown as a precaution. Vine Street and Lakeshore Drive were closed during the incident.
