Police release a composite sketch of unknown man with Carlsbad missing teen.

CARLSBAD–Carlsbad police Wednesday released a sketch they say is a description of a unknown man seen with a missing 17 year-old Carlsbad teen.

Investigators also announced a special telephone tip line for information leading to the safe return of the girl.

Christine Jelinek, 17, who goes by the name “Kira Hawkins,“ was reported missing by her mother on January 4 at 8:07 a.m. She took with her a black hooded sweat shirt, two pairs of jeans, a Nintendo DS Playstation, and several artist sketchbooks.

Authorities say Jelinek is possibly in the company of a white man she’d met over the Internet. They described the man as possibly 48 to 50 years old, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, 160 pounds with short dark hair peppered with blond or gray.

At a news conference, Lt. Paul Mendes said Jelinek met with an unidentified male on Jan. 3 at a sandwich restaurant near the border of Carlsbad and Vista.

Mendes said they both left and spent about 45 minutes at another restaurant before the man drove her home.

Jelinek is white, 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 150 pounds, with dark-brown shoulder-length hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on the missing girl, or her male companion is urged to call Carlsbad police at (760) 931-2223.
