“These horses have been through a traumatic event,” said John Carlson, Deputy Director of the County Department of Animal Services. “They were chased on very hard surfaces and sustained some injuries related to that. They have all been examined and treated by our veterinary staff but still need a little more time to recuperate.”
People interested in adopting a horse or horses can pick up applications at any of the three County animal shelters, or by visiting http://www.sddac.com/docs/HorseAdoption.pdf. The application should be accompanied by a completed “sealed bid” form http://www.sddac.com/docs/SealedBid.pdf. After screening applicants, staff will review the bids. A copy of the horse’s medical treatments will be provided to the adopter.
Contrary to early reports, these are not “wild” horses and all of them are easy to handle. The Department does not know if they have ever been ridden, but they certainly are comfortable around people.
The horses may be viewed at the County Shelter at 5821 Sweetwater Road in Bonita.
