Remains of Escondido teen Amber Dubois found
By Gina Yarbrough ESCONDIDO--Escondido police today announced at a news conference that the skeletal remains of missing Escondido teen Amber Dubois have been found in a rugged, remote area north of the Pala Indian Reservation. Authorities say the skeletal remains were found Saturday morning after receiving a lead that led to Dubois’ body. [caption id="attachment_1860" align="alignright" width="128" caption="Slain teen Amber Dubois of Escondido."][/caption] Escondido Police Chief Jim Maher didn’t release details of the lead, or any information on the discovery of the remains. “I certainly had hoped that when the day came to do a press conference about Amber it would be under much different circumstances, but that was not to be,” said Maher. Positive identification was made by the San Diego County medical examiner late Saturday afternoon by way of a dental records comparison. Amber’s parents Maurice Dubois and Carrie McGonigle were notified in person by Escondido and Sheriff's investigators Saturday night. Dubois and McGonigle attended the news conference at the Escondido Police station. Defendant in Chelsea King case charged with murder, rape
SAN DIEGO--Accused killer John Albert Gardner III, 30, has been formally charged with murder and a special circumstance allegation of murder during the commission of a rape or attempted rape in connection with the death of Poway High School student Chelsea King. Gardner is also charged with assault with intent to commit rape in connection with an attack on a jogger in December of 2009. District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis told reporters that special circumstance allegation makes Gardner eligible for the death penalty. A determination on whether to seek the death penalty will be made by after the preliminary hearing next Tuesday. Without the special circumstance, the charge of murder carries a maximum penalty of life in prison. Body found in Lake Hodges maybe missing Poway teen
By Gina Yarbrough SAN DIEGO--After six days of intensive search for a missing Poway teen, authorities say a body found buried in a shallow grave in Lake Hodges Tuesday maybe of 17-year-old Chelsea King. San Diego County Sheriff William Gore says the body was discovered about 1 p.m. by a FBI diver. It was located 10 feet from the south shore of the lake, not far from previous discovered items such as clothes and a shoe. Before meeting with reporters, Sheriff Gore informed Chelsea’s parents Brent and Kelly King of the finding. “They were holding out hope that we would find her,” said Sheriff Gore. “Although positive identification has not been made, there is strong likelihood that we have found Chelsea," he said. The medical examiner will officially confirm the body’s identification and cause of death on Wednesday. The teen vanished February 25 after visiting a running trail near Lake Hodges. An avid long-distance runner and straight-A student at Poway High School, King had parked her car at the Rancho Bernardo Community Center on West Bernardo Drive and did not return.
